Jemez Falls campgrounds, Santa Fe National Forest, NM :flagus: August, 2008

this is my entry for the October 2008 :iconsignmeupscotty: *signmeupscotty theme of contrasting pairs
a few of the contrasts of this pair are:
taking/giving - big/little - colorful/drab - young/old - demanding/obliging - :giggle: well you get the :idea:

the woodpecker chick spends all it's time demanding beetles from his Mom, who is the smaller bird on top

hopefully :fingerscrossed: he'll be hunting beetles on his own soon :nod:
as Mom looks plain tuckered out :rofl:

Great shot! I didn't know there was a kind of bird like that. It reminds me of when in the spring time here a kind of bird called the brownheaded cowbird lays its eggs in other birds nest so you see wrens taking care of baby cowbirds that look twice their size. :)

i actually crept up on them :giggle: this was the nearest i could get before they scattered :nod:

:tears: not a very crisp image :no: but captures the reality of parents trying to ween their very big male fledglings :rofl:
