At least Anna's hummingbirds (and some other species) sometimes eat bees. Too much blur on the little yellow guy for me to ID him.

I didn't know about it until I read up on them. I believe they prefer smaller flying insects and spiders, but the Anna's at least do eat bees sometimes, and occasionally it backfires on them and the bees get stuck on their bills with tragic results. I'm sure though, that they chase them off of feeders more often than grabbing a buzzing snack. The majority of the insect part of their diet is during breeding season or in winter when there are fewer flowers. They think the extra insects in the Anna's diet compared to other hummers is part of what allows some of them to overwinter as far north as Vancouver.
