                                October 23, 2016   6:00 AM  - the most difficult morning of my long life

In the midst of sorrow
Jaq showed a slight dragging of his right hind leg after jumping for a ball Saturday morning.  Around noon we took him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with a  herniated disk in his middle spine.   By 5 PM he was paralyzed from the lower chest down.  By 6 AM Sunday we had no choice but let our beloved Jaq go. 


......................Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
the band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
and somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
but there is no joy in Mudville — since Jaq's joyful light's gone out.

I fear Mudville will forever be without JOY
without my beloved Jaq -

               

 

 



                           


   



 

                 




1-12-18 After over a year of grieving Jaq I've come to understand I've experienced unconditional love twice -
once with a cat named Katjke and now with a dog named Jaq.

I don't believe unconditional love, between human adults - even love partners - is a healthy process.  And it's not been the norm for me in my pet relationships, of which there have been many. 

But when it does occur - it's magical.

The reason it's becoming abundantly clear that pet ownership increases the joy and length of life is because it's incredibly beneficial to feel you are a person of significance in the eyes of something that loves you back unconditionally.
